About GreatLakes Camping
Built in Michigan's Thumb, for anyone who's ever tried to figure out if a campground actually has a spot for their rig.
Why we're building this
Finding a state park campsite in Michigan is easy — there's one good website for that. Finding a private campground is not. Information is scattered across old directories, campground-specific websites of wildly varying quality, and phone calls that go to voicemail. Basic questions — does it have full hookups, what's the rig length limit, is it pet-friendly — often mean digging through a PDF or calling and hoping someone picks up.
We think Michigan camping deserves one place that covers all of it honestly: state parks and state forest campgrounds alongside the family-run private campgrounds that don't show up anywhere else.
What this site is today
1,260 campgrounds across 83 Michigan counties, each with its own page. Every one of them is a real place; nothing here is invented to fill a map.
What we do not have is complete information about all of them, and we would rather say so than let a blank space imply an answer:
- 614 of 1,260 have a written description.
- 529 of 1,260 have at least one photograph.
- 50 of 1,260 have rates we could read from the operator's own site.
- 1,147 of 1,260 have nearby services worked out — groceries, fuel, a hospital.
Those numbers are read from the live database each time this page is rebuilt. If one of them looks low, it is low, and that is the honest state of the directory today rather than a rounding of it.
Where the information comes from
Public data from the Michigan DNR, the National Park Service, the U.S. Forest Service and Recreation.gov, plus OpenStreetMap and Overture Maps for private campgrounds. Where a campground publishes its own details, we read those too, and we say on each page where a given fact came from. The full list is on our data sources page.
We do not copy photographs from sites that have not licensed them to us. Some campgrounds therefore have no picture here even though a picture exists elsewhere.
If something is wrong
Tell us and we will fix it. Errors in a directory are not embarrassing; leaving them in place is.
Email support@crownstrategic.com or call (989) 623-8420. If you run a campground listed here, you can claim your listing and correct it yourself — see For Owners.
